YakAttack 28L DryPak Waterproof Backpack - Grey/Orange | Floating Marine Dry Bag Pack with Padded Straps for Kayaking, Fishing & Hiking | 10" x 22" x 12" | Lightweight Outdoor Gear & Storage Drybag

Living in bags and testing gear are more than just hobbies; they are passions. Recently, I got my hands on the YakAttack 28L DryPak Waterproof Backpack, a piece of gear that promises to keep your belongings dry during kayaking, fishing, or hiking adventures. As someone who spends a significant amount of time in the great outdoors, I was eager to see if this backpack could live up to its claims.

TL;DR

The YakAttack 28L DryPak is a versatile, waterproof backpack designed for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers excellent protection against water, floats when sealed, and provides a comfortable carry with padded straps and breathable mesh. It's ideal for kayaking, fishing, and hiking adventures.

First Impressions

Upon first glance, the YakAttack 28L DryPak Waterproof Backpack strikes a balance between functionality and style. Available in colors like grey, orange, and possibly green and black, the backpack is visually appealing with its sleek design. Constructed from waterproof 210D nylon and featuring RF-welded seams, the bag promises to keep your gear dry, a claim I was eager to put to the test.

Waterproof Performance

The waterproof capabilities of the YakAttack backpack are arguably its most significant selling point. During my testing, I took the backpack on several kayaking trips. The bag's roll-top design and RF-welded seams truly impressed me. After hours on the water, I found my gear dry, even after exposure to splashes and light rain. It's important to note that while the backpack protects against brief water exposure, it's not designed for prolonged submersion.

Floating Feature

One standout feature is the backpack's ability to float. This can be a lifesaver if your bag accidentally falls into the water. During a fishing trip, I intentionally dropped the bag into the lake to test this feature. As advertised, the bag floated, ensuring my gear was safe and retrievable.

Capacity and Organization

The YakAttack 28L DryPak offers ample space for a day trip. I packed clothing layers, snacks, a camera, and a few fishing tackle items with room to spare. The single main compartment design keeps things simple, but it might not appeal to those who prefer multiple organizational pockets. However, for its intended use, the minimalist design works well, reducing bulk and keeping the bag lightweight.

Comfort and Carry

Comfort is paramount when you're carrying gear for an entire day. The YakAttack backpack features padded shoulder straps and a breathable mesh back panel, which I found to provide excellent comfort even during long hikes. The adjustable sternum strap aids in distributing weight evenly, making it stable on uneven terrain. This feature is particularly beneficial when you're carrying heavier loads.

Versatility for Outdoor Activities

This backpack is designed for multi-sport use, and it certainly lives up to that promise. Whether you're kayaking, fishing, hiking, or even heading out for a beach trip, the YakAttack DryPak performs well. Its all-season design means you can rely on it for adventures in both summer and winter, especially when water protection is a priority.

Potential Drawbacks

While the YakAttack 28L DryPak is an impressive piece of gear, it's not without its drawbacks. The lack of internal organization might be a downside for some users, and while it offers excellent water protection, it's not built for deep submersion. Additionally, at $99.99, it's a bit of an investment, but for those who need reliable water protection, it's worth considering.

Verdict

Overall, the YakAttack 28L DryPak Waterproof Backpack is a solid choice for outdoor enthusiasts who need a reliable, water-resistant pack. Its ability to float, comfortable design, and ample capacity make it suitable for a variety of activities. While it may lack internal organization, its durability and waterproof features more than make up for it. If you're someone who spends time in wet environments, this backpack could be your next best friend.
